In the wake of the Elon Musk appearance on Saturday Night Live and the meteoric rise of cryptocurrency, the thought I began to have was whether cryptocurrency would ever become a valid form of payment for legal services. I instantly thought, Yes! I would accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment. So I searched the internet for answers and learned that small businesses have been accepting cryptocurrency as a form of payment since at least 2013. I became more interested and learned that dogecoin could be accepted as a form of payment right now by downloading an app called dogecoin wallet. I am now searching for ways to accept dogecoin (or bitcoin or etherium or any other reputable cryptocurrency). The way I see it is that cryptocurrency will increasingly be utilized as payment and could be utilized to settle debts of any kind in the future, including legal retainers. Such an arrangement could result in a windfall or a complete loss of the legal retainer by the attorney accepting it as payment because the price of the cryptocurrency will fluctuate over time. Of course, the attorney accepting payment in cryptocurrency should also be able to trade it for dollars upon request to avoid the fluctuations.
